 "Good quality gardening tool" 2009-09-09
By Pillowtalk (Austin, TX, USA)
This is a fantastic item that I use every time I garden.

It's great for raking over the mud in small flowerbeds.

It's also good for pulling out roots/weeds.

Rubber handle is great for grip & product is very durable/sturdy.

Well worth the price.

 "Very useful" 2009-05-12
By San Fran (NE)
I bought this thinking I may or may not use it very much, but it has turned out to be quite a useful tool. It's very good at loosening up compacted dirt and spreading compost around the flower beds. Also, it was a lifesaver when I needed to dig out small rocks & pebbles that were 5 inches deep in the dirt. Without it, the job would've taken me forever.

This tool is very well made and I recommend it to anyone needing a good cultivator.

I purchased this fork from Amazon with no problems. It works fine. I have always used a claw foot cultivator and this one has straight tines. The tool is heavy and appears to be of good quality. I use it a lot and think it was a good investment.

I love Fiskars products. They are all such high quality. This product is no different. I have not seen this product, or any product with such thick tines at any Home Improvement store.

I had been looking for this type of a product for when I am working on my knees in the garden to move dirt around.

You won't be disappointed.

I've had a garden claw since they were first introduced. It's been so great in our clay, hardpan, and rocks. I've used it to work up so many flower beds that I was afraid it would eventually break. I bought the second one just in case. It would be a disaster if they were ever discontinued.

"Weeder and Cultivator in superior quality" 2009-04-22
By W.Busch (Rocket City, AL)
I bought this garden tool due to the fact that WOLF assures a premium material quality for a higher price of course but will last for a life time. This weeder and cultivator helped me to prepare the border bed on the front site of my home that consist of hard clay dirt, roots and construction debris and all kinds of weeds. I used it to open the hard clay dirt surface, to take it off, planted new shrubs, leveled the dirt with the tool, put a weed preventer tarp on the dirt and covered the bed with black mulch. Among all my garden tools this WOLF GARTEN weeder cultivator with it's weeder blade was the only one that could made my job easy to distribute the mulch evenly under the old and new shrubs.

I can highly recommend this tool made by WOLF Garten.

"Great weeder, and hard to find!" 2007-05-25
By C. Johnson (Georgia)
Several years ago, I purchased a "Scott's" interchangeable tool set, with a long handle and several different attachments. The weeder/cultivator was the best I had ever used. This was at least 12 years ago, and I used that tool nearly every day in the garden. It had a 3-pronged claw on one side, and a flat blade for weeding on the other. This spring, it finally bit the dust, and I searched everywhere for a replacement. I took a chance that the "Wolf-garten" brand would fit my handle....and it does! So if anybody else has this problem, LOVES this tool, and needs to replace it....this is the only place on the planet to buy it.

I have owned several Mantis machines. I run them until they collapse after many years of service. This time I bought the 4 cycle. What a great machine. A relative also used it, and gave it the title of "freaking awesome". These do not replace huge tillers, but for the average garden, they are exceptional. The 4 cycle is much easier to use, as the gas mix is always a pain...If you are a gardener...buy one of these.

We are avid gardeners and creating beds the old-fashion way using a fork was back-breaking. This little tiller is the does the nice edging and the tilling!

In cold weather, the 4-cycle engine fires-up after a few pulls. When warm, a single pull is all that is required. It weighs about 20lbs and is easy to maneuver. The changing of times to the edger attachment takes less than a minute.

The tines are super strong! We have very rocky soil and to my surprise, the tines have lasted this long! Tilling has never been so easy. Mantis has created a product that almost every gardener can use. We are more than satisfied with it!

I used the tiller 1 time. After that time it sat for 1 week. All the oil leaked into the cylinder. Mantis would not repair or refund. Honda did not know how to fix. Mantis said they would send a new tiller but never received. Suggest not dealing with Mantis products because of poor customer service.

Was happy with the ease of assembly and clear insructions. Engine started fairly easily and is quiet. I had used an old Mantis before and the new 4 stroke Honda is a nice improvement. Works very well on good garden soil. It doesn't have the power or weight to take on rocky soil or too many tough roots. Overall a good product and a labor saver for my modest garden.

     "Well Balanced Tools" 2008-12-03
By Everett A. Warren (Northeast PA United States)
When I first came across these, I thought they looked neat, and maybe they might not function so bad. The look had additional marketing appeal for my landscaping company, something to set us aside from others.

However, I wasn't really sure they'd suit a functional purpose, so I tentatively ordered the shovel to give it a trial run and to see if I could live with it.

I've since gone out and stocked up on all the NRG-PRO tools, their hand tools, and I'm looking forward to at least some of the NRG-STX series tools as well.

All of the tools have a great balance. They are easier to control and carry materials across distances ~ a simple open hand across the circular handle keeps them from spinning and dropping whatever they're carrying. I've also found the handle design helps keep them from rolling or causing too much trouble when toting them around across the arms of a wheelbarrow.

The nice green does seem to get dulled quickly from the mud and, even when washed clean, still loses that new-tool shine. The business end has no such problems and remains easy to clean even when it has a right not to.

I'm tall ~ over 6' ~ and I never thought I'd like the short handles on these, however, I've found they're more comfortable even digging down below grade. This is a bit of personal taste, as my son, slightly shorter than I, prefers long handled tools.

Although my son actually prefers the smaller ergonomic weeder, when I'm going after dandelions, I like to use this. I find it does an excellent job at getting deep tap roots without disturbing an entire area.

     "Challenged in gravelly soil" 2008-07-26
    By Laurel Pen (USA)
Having read the negative review of the person from Tucson, I was wary of buying this tool. I wasn't sure if the blade was large enough or strong enough to work through the many rocks in my soil.

I need a tool that can be aimed fairly precisely at the root... digging in my gravelly soil is difficult with a shovel and I have plants near the weeds that I don't want to disturb. The weeds... mostly mature yellow dock with deep, sometimes huge and tough tap roots.

The weeder is working beautifully for me. The workmanship of the tool is high quality, built to last, and, even in my wicked soil, it looks like it will never bend. It is designed for ease of handling, and succeeds.

Yes, the slippery roots can elude the weeder, partly because they can take surprising twists and turns. But I've had a lifetime of gardening and, with a little patience with him/herself, the good gardener in Tucson might discover other ways of teasing out the root without resorting to plunging it in repeatedly. One suggestion - when you miss the root, you can usually see where it went and twist the tool while it's still in the ground. By watching the movement of the weed above ground, you can usually see if you are getting closer.

    I highly recommend this weeder.

     "not my wisest purchase" 2008-07-01
    By groghound (Tucson, AZ USA)
I bought this item specifically because I had some weeds with large taproots to remove from my yard.

I didn't find that it was more effective than a shovel. In fact, less so, because of its narrow end, which forces you to aim well at a tap root you can't see. I frequently ended up plunging the tool repeatedly into the ground before I struck the root.

It's definitely an aesthetically impressive garden tool, fluorescent green, round handle, and gleaming aluminum blade and all.

I'm not sure what kind of specialized use it would be most appropriate for. Perhaps a week with a taproot that is visible above ground?

This tool markets better than it actually works. I feel a little embarrassed at buying it. Not my wisest purchasing decision.

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2HUIS16MGCVSR Lots of folks gripe about these great Fiskar composite garden hand tools.

Such people obviously do not garden.

This is the best at what it does: hand cultivation and weeding of your prepared garden beds.

It is not dynamite. It is not a crow bar. It will not extract boulders from your granite stone New England field.

It weeds and cultivates and aerates with minimum of damage your prepared and composted vegetable and flower garden.

The best. Better than metal. Less damage to all involved, including the plants.

Sure, maybe you can find one cheaper at your city's big box shop.

It won't be the fine Fiskar brand name. And you'll waste your own fuel instead of the USPS's gas.

Best tool. All right price. Best at what it does.

Okay. I admit it. It won't plow your lower 40.

But it is not designed to.

Fiskar Garden cultivator, dude. Not John Deere's combine.

    Get one.

    Not a gardener?

Also a great backscratcher for those hard to reach spots.

    By C. Nelson (VA)
I bought this a little bit ago. I finally used it this past week to plant 2 new shrubs in very hard and dry soil filled with chunks of clay, rocks, etc. It's great for breaking up chunks of clay and dirt when you're putting the dirt back into the hole.

The tool has a good grip, good solid weight to it, and made planting much easier. It's well-made and should last a long time. When I was done and hung it up in my shed, I thought to myself "I'm really glad that I bought this." I think you will feel the same way.

I bought mine here on Amazon, but also saw it and other OXO gardening tools at the huge green house where I bought the shrubs. They carry high quality plants and it was another vote of confidence that I bought a good tool after seeing it there.

I inherited one of these wonderful tools from an older relative and I can't say enough good things about it. I use it to unearth and cut off a seemingly unending network of oak plants/trees/bushes. Also the hated cats claw vines. Also works great for removing weeds from my gravel driveway and everywhere else. Once I couldn't find it and thought I'd have to buy a new one but then it was spotted by my nephew in a pile of debris I had thrown out. Now my hoematic has bright orange blaze tape wrapped around the shaft to help me see it better. I would be lost without this amazing yard tool.

"Amazing labor and back saver, but quality control problem" 2007-06-13
By law prof (Los Angeles, CA USA)
We brought an Earthway high wheel garden cultivator to a family member in Ireland who has a large organic vegetable garden. It works amazingly well. We have only used the five-prong cultivator to weed between the crop rows in pretty heavy clay soil, and have yet to try the other attachments. It requires only the technique of using a manual push mower: one step forward at a time; a shallow pass the first time and a deeper pass the second; going down the grade rather than up it; and so on. We are so impressed with it that we've just ordered one for our home garden and allotment in California. It makes weeding a pleasure and saves our backs.

September 2, 2007 follow-up. We did not have such good luck with our second cultivator. It arrived packaged in the original Earthway box, but it was missing two vital parts and the parts that were sent were painted black, not the usual powdered steel finish. We called Earthway, which promptly sent the two parts and had no explanation why the hoe was now painted black. I asked them to make sure that the missing parts were black as well. The two parts arrived painted gray, so we have a 2-tone hoe. Additionally, the main tool, the 5-clawed cultivator, had too much solder on one of its two parts, so they did not fit together smoothly, with the result that our hoe is somewhat lopsided when it is standing up. It still works well, but its appearance and lopsidedness take away some of the pleasure of using it. We emailed Earthway about it, but never received a response.
